The SPSCC Foundation prides themselves on “Making the Sound”. Their mission is to “engage with the community and build resources to support success for all students”. I have been to two events that have helped raise funds for scholarships and grants. Students of the South Puget Sound Community College are awarded these.
“Making the Sound” is what the donors and sponsors of the SPSCC Foundation achieve by helping students graduate. Nurses, engineers, architects, dental assistants and business leaders just to name a few.
The Clipper Scramble Golf Tournament is just one of the events they have to raise funds. This is a really special one to me as you will read later.
You can check out their detailed report on their impact page here.
The Experience – their fundraising gala, I have been to this one, you can checkout those images in a future blogpost.
Clipper Scramble Golf Tournament – that was what I got to photograph in the last week, read more about it below.
Presidents Club Reception – I photographed this a few years ago. Its an event that focuses on that truly honors and thanks those of the Presidents Club and Lifetime Circle, those who are wonderful, committed supporters of the college.
Resound – I have not been to this one before but have come to find its yearly celebration that gets scholarship recipients, donors, and guests together. It seems that’s the one where donors really get to see the impact, they have on students lives.
The Clipper Scramble Golf Tournament is an event that takes place that the Olympia Country and Golf Club. The goal is to have fun and raise funds to build resources that will support as many SPSCC students as possible. With these funds students gain assistance to access and complete college. This event has been around for close to 25 years. They have raised more than $850,000.00

I got to drive around with Michael who is an awesome golf cart driver. We photographed as many teams as possible and sponsors. I got to see familiar faces from Twinstar, Olyfed, Harbor Wholesale, of course SPSCC, and then new people. I love meeting people. I love especially getting to see their faces. My favorite photo from the event was of Sofie’s Scoops at the Olyfed sponsored hole, with a great golfer in the background.
This was a very freeing event and was happening at the perfect time of WA state opening up for social gatherings. People were not required to wear masks as we were all outside. There was hand sanitizer stations at the clubhouse area. It felt beautiful and freeing. The weather was gorgeous, the views were amazing, everything was so green and fresh. See so many faces, actual faces, for me someone who relies on seeing expressions, was my favorite part of being included in this event.
More and more we are getting to what feels like a normal place. This was one of those events that helped me feel that way. I have been vaccinated and came across a friend I have not seen in a really long time that was vaccinated too! I am sharing this because we got an opportunity to HUG! I was so excited to be able to give and receive a hug. I am a hugger; I need contact and this opportunity was so precious to me and I am so grateful for it.
Clipper Scramble Golf Tournament, is one of those events that will mark a time where normalcy is getting closer, a time where I get to see faces and give or receive hugs. I am so grateful.
Let's chit-chat!
