Today was day 6 of the 7 days of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build 2021.
The awesome sponsors were from Twinstar Credit Union! They had great shirts displaying “Those who can do” and “Those who can do more volunteer”. So perfect for a day like Women’s Build 2021.
The Twinstar volunteers helped with foam installation, nailing walls in place, raising walls, sheeting walls, cleanup and laying soil.
Raising of the walls is always so amusing. People feel like the walls are gonna go right over the platform and collapse BUT there are studs in place that prevent it from going over. After the crew of volunteers lift the walls upright one of the Habitat construction staff nails supports in place.
I love seeing volunteers learning new skills but I especially love seeing a staff member coming over and showing the volunteers a better way to do something. The construction crew have been doing this for many years so they have learnt a thing or two.
One technique that was made better today was how to make gravity work for you when hammering. At the time these two entertaining volunteers were hammering basically at a 90 degree angle to their body while facing the wall. What was better was leaning your butt against the wall and then swinging the hammer from inline with your hip or higher then down into the nail. They were infinity feeling better about the whole process.
