South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build is an event close to my heart. I love working with Shawna at South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity.
I am so excited to be photographing the third annual South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build. This will be the third time I get to photograph this amazing event.
What happens during Women’s Build?
During this time women volunteering in this 6 day event will be helping build homes alongside future habitat homeowners.
Volunteers will learn constructions skills, being guided by professional construction workers every step of the way.
Here are a couple things I have noticed while photographing South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build in the past:
- Volunteers get to spend time with one another
- Volunteers get a day “out of the office” or in this years case “out of home”
- Volunteers get to catch up with one another
- It has been a great way for friends to spend the day together either as a birthday celebration or remembrance of a loved one
- People seem grounded and connected to the earth as they are working the soil
- Sponsors feel like they are investing in something that really has impact on the community
- Sponsors have an opportunity to treat their employees to a day out doing something different
- Home owners are so appreciative of the help
- Home owners get to work alongside those volunteers, strengthening ties to the community
- The faces on the home owners and volunteers are priceless when the project is completed
How can I get involved in South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build?
I was so happy to hear from Shawna, the coordinator for the event, that it was sold out this year but there are other ways you can help below.
- You can donate to the event here, the goal is to raise $60 000 this year.
- Reach out to Shawna Dutton here, so you can get involved next year.
