My favorite Conceptual Anniversary Photo Session

 

I love this couple!

I have known Steph and Reid ever since my husband got me networking in the community. Its probably about 7 years now. About 6 years ago Steph and Reid came to me wanting to do a couple’s shoot. Later I found out it was a gift for their anniversary.

A conceptual anniversary photo session in Olympia:

They wanted something different, something I call “conceptual”. It needed to be very unique to them.

We all looked through magazine, high fashion magazines for inspiration. We looked at what they were drawn to and made something of their own from it. I love doing this kind of work, it’s what I trained for. I don’t always do this kind of work, its only when people specifically ask for it.

 

When is a great time to have an anniversary photo session?

Whenever you feel the need to do one. I find that people with specific milestone anniversaries are the ones wanting to have this kind of service. An anniversary photo session in this case was for their tenth wedding anniversary. I am personally a fan of the number 5 so I would celebrate 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.

 

What do you need to think about before having an anniversary photo session:

Do you just want an updated image or a conceptual session? If you want a simple session in the park that means you just want updated images. If you want something unique to you, something you can dress up for, something that really marks the year then you want a conceptual anniversary photo session.

 

Conceptual anniversary photo sessions involve the following:

• Stating that you want a conceptual session.
• Going through images from specifically magazines, ads, music videos so that you can find what you are attracted to beyond what general photos look like. This is special.
• Meeting about the how the session will go, show me outfits you have in mind, think about accessories, or meaningful items.
• We talk about the elements on what your attracted to so we can reenact that.
• This would be a controlled session, finessing with lighting, strongly posing and then relaxing to get into a better more authentic flow of expressions.
• The session could last 2-3 hrs with outfit changes and possible location changes.
• The location decision may need research and require permission from property owners. Its best if there is significance to the location. This location was a residence of specific meaning and connection.

This is just to give an idea into what goes into a session like this.
