Today was the first day of the third annual South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build 2021.
It felt so great to get back out there and photograph people together.
What I love about this year is South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity is really making safety a priority. Specifically with regards to covid. Everyone is masked up, keeping social distance and there is sanitizer everywhere.
It was amazing to see today how much distance people could keep naturally with he work they were doing.
When I got to the site I realized they are nearly done with ALL the homes on this property. I’m sure I am not the only one that’s looking forward to the property being complete.
There is plenty work to do on the site that naturally allows social distancing.
Your mouth is naturally protected from sawdust when getting things cut … because mask.
Having sanitizer available before eating is a great way to confidentially handle your food
As I listened to conversations happening throughout the day I felt a sense of happiness. Talking online or watching people through social media channels just isn’t the same as being in their physical presence.
I heard one woman reliving a memory of doing wood work with her grandpa as she helped glue floorboards down.
I heard business owner talk about how important volunteering was for her today. She felt a desire to give back to her community especially after how much the community supported her business during the quarantine and covid times.
I heard women learning how to use certain construction tools. I heard one get incredibly excited about using a saw, another thrilled she would get to try a nail gun. After each of these women tried their hand at these tools their faces lit up, their voices grew louder. It was so beautiful to witness.
So the experience was wonderful and I felt safe the entire time. I loved the covid protocols they had in place.
Today volunteers came from Coldwell Banker, Uncork and Unwind, and the North Thurston School District.
I know I wasn’t the only one excited about the food today which was sponsored by Hops n Drops, I meant to take a better untouched photo of the food but I was so hungry I just dug in.
Now that Women’s Build 2021 Day 1 is complete I cannot wait for what tomorrow brings. See you then!
