It was finally time to do some mini sessions! I found the perfect place to do them. The Rutledge Corn Maze Farm was perfect. The mini sessions were offered to our current clients first then opened to the public. The sky was blue, there were dragonflies, planes, bees and a lot of dust.
The Rutledge Corn Maze Farm does more than just pumpkins and Halloween! This year they had a Sunflower Festival during two weekends in August. There were many varieties and even a giant section of sunflowers. There were lots of beautiful areas in which we could take gorgeous photos but my favorite was the giant swing.
When we arrived the first thing the kids did was kick around the dust. Some of the kiddos picked up the dust and flung it in the air like glitter they didn’t have to pickup. At the end of each session we did a dust photo. It was as epic as a smoke session but using natural resources at our disposal.
There were so many dragonflies, bees and even planes at the session. So much was going on other than the gorgeous bright yellow sunflowers! There was even a double plane landing, I am not sure whats involved with that but basically two planes were flying close together and landed at the same time.
The dragonflies were so beautiful but speedy. Sometimes in the photographs you will see bots and it’s the insects flying around, they are mostly a blur.
The produce stand was awesome I got the best peaches from there and will probably go back to get more.
There were many porta potties.
Ample parking.
It was quiet on this day because it was a separate day for photographers. Not only was this great for photographers but for families too. They got to spend a lot of time in the sunflowers after their photo session.
Later in the year there are a few events that are fall themed. Corn maze, fire pits, pumpkin patch, zombie paintball and additionally a zombie maze.
So I had no idea the soil was so dusty, it was my first year. It made for great photos but….shoe wise I need to think about this in the future!
I highly recommend sneakers if you don’t like getting dirty. If you love getting dirty or your kids do then embrace the dirt but get shoes that fit snug like Keens sandals.
If you and the kids wanna go barefoot that’s somewhat ok, there are sunflower stalks that have been cut but not pulled out of the soil so they are sticking up which could be pokey for kiddos. There are areas that are more clear of stalks so some barefoot could be done. Just make sure to take care and slow.
This was the first time I did them and I think they turned out great! All the kids seemed to have a great time and we moved very quickly through the photo sessions. They lasted 10-15 minutes. Although 20 images were promised, everyone ended up with more. These are my favorite images.
We had a variety of people come out to the sessions. Families and business owners!
One client spoke about how significant the sunflowers are to her and her culture. The kids seemed to enjoy everything the farm had to offer. Parents were amazed by the views of the sunflowers and the varieties.
If you have a family or friends this is a session for you.
If you love sunflowers or flowers in general this is for you.
If you are a business owner this is a great way to add variety to your headshots and social media presence.
Let's chit-chat!
